Ask Anything

Okay guys like we talked about on Tuesday I want to do a series similar to one I have witness at another church (Mars Hill Seatle). I want to challenge to you to think and then ask me anything about Christianity that you would like yeah I said it ANYTHING. In the book of 1 Corinthians Paul’s letter was in large part a series of answers to various questions he received from the church. So this idea of asking questions and having then answered is not a new one to me or anyone else. Throughout the letter, Paul frequently quotes directly from the letter he received from the Corinthians. Paul’s example got me to consider what it would be like to do something similar. After we get a good mix (say the first 25 or so) then I will place them on the blog for you to vote for and the top 5 (more if they are really popular) I will teach on. I want to teach on things relevant to you and effect you within your context. Invite your friends and family to join in on the discussion by placing the question as a comment, emailing me, or Facebook me. Please keep the language clean and Ask Anything!!!!!

Is it wrong to smoke a cigar like once a week if it has nothing to do with addiction?
This question is something I have been struggling with for a while now. It may be a question someone can answer right away but for me it isn’t. I am working through it so that I can know the answer for myself.
What does reading the Bible and studying it help? Jon said something a couple weeks ago during a discussion. He said, “I will always ask you if you can back it up with the Bible.”
My question to that is why? I guess I haven’t read the Bible in so long that the meaning that the Bible used to hold for me is lost. And it makes me wonder if there is a meaning to it? My head says there is, my heart says there isn’t.
Hope this questions makes you think. It sure is challenging me to find out because my life depends on it.
How does a Christian date righteously? Genesis 2 says it’s not good for a man to be alone, that he needs a wife to help him out. However, the Bible doesn’t lay out a specific way that is to be done. Are there different ways to go about getting a spouse? What is acceptable?
Sorry that is actually 3 questions but i think it is worth asking!
How do you know that you are a Christian? I have grown up in church all of my life but I do not know if I am a christian or not…. i think that I am but i am not sure, could you help?
Did Jesus die on the cross to save us from our sins or to save us from his wrath?
Is it wrong to smoke pot?
Is sex before marriage wrong?
Is living together before marriage wrong?
how active should the church be (within non-profit laws) in the political process?
why do you think the modern church so afraid of speaking out against pornography and other sexual addiction?
the church has never done a good job of being relevant to issues that plague so many of us. why do you think this is when we are called to live righteously? if the church is choosing not help us… (and yes they’re choosing not to)… who and what will?
Do other “gods” truly exist?
or are they simply idols that we pretend are real?
Here comes the elephant.
Masturbation.
Is it sin if lustful thoughts can be avoided?
as in the physical act of masturbation without using your mind.
do spirits and demons exist in this world?
if so, what part do they play?
The Bible doesn’t cover much of it so it’s sort of a mystery.
A lot of us like to say that when the Bible was canonized that this was some perfect, and without error event. (I know i do) Besides our own need to have an infallible resource from God that gives us all the answer what real evidence do we have that the Bible’s canonization was perfect? Where outside the Bible shows that the Bible is perfect?
Can a Christian lose their faith??
Let’s talk about the Trinity!!!
The previous question made me think of a question I’ve been thinking about lately. I believe the Bible to be true, because God gave men these messages to relay to the rest of us. We often times won’t believe someone’s word unless they can back it up with the Bible. Is it not possible for men now to also receive messages from God, just as it happened back then? When men received the words of the Bible back then, they didn’t have anything like we have the Bible today to back it up, so how can we say current messages aren’t just as valid?
One of my non-christian friends recently asked me this question and I didn’t really know how to answer it… In the old testament God seems very angry and vengeful, but in the new testament He wants us to love everyone, so was He wrong in the old testament by being so angry and killing people? And if so does that mean God makes mistakes? I feel icky asking this question, because I know it’s much deeper, but I need help answering it.
If all sins, no matter how great, can be forgiven, then aren’t all sins equal?
